Day 8

The plan for today was to go to Talkeetna, the major staging point for expeditions to Denali. No, we weren't planning to climb it, but perhaps we'd catch one of the commercial tours. The IFR Pilot's flying skills stand at an all time high, what with more than 30 hours logged during the last week, but even he's not about to go circling around North America's largest mountain!

Then, we we're gonna hit Anchorage. A day late for the 75th Anniversary party, but still thought that might be fun.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature is once again interfering. Forest fires in the Anchorage area are lowering visibilities to about 1 mile. The IFR Pilot ain't goin' flyin in no mountains with 1 mile visibility.

So, we've turned around and headed back down the highway. This posting once again brought to you from the $1 for 10 minutes Internet kiosk, which are located all over Whitehorse. We're searching for plans, but so far it looks like we're headed for Rapid City, South Dakota, to take in Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Then, maybe we'll take in Oshkosh. It's a bit before the big party, but methinks there still might be some stuff worth seeing. Of course, if any of you have a better suggestion about where we should go, leave a comment and we'll evaulate the merits of your proposal.

See ya!
